Cleft palate

What is it?

It is a congenital defect of the rooftop of the mouth which is accompanied by functional problems during feeding or speech. When inappropriately treated, it may lead to velopharyngeal insufficiency that causes permanent nasal speech.

The procedure

During the operation, we aim to reconstruct the defect, as well as to lengthen the palate so as the child can speak normally. I perform the Von Langebeck technique in combination with intravelar veloplasty to correct palatal musculature orientation.

Age

At 9 months.

Anesthesia

General.

Λυκόστομα (υπερωιοσχιστία)
